SFU’s Digital Democracies Institute works to advance new technology and cultural democracy October 26, 2020 The evolution of technology has altered how information is processed, with globalization enabling education and technological advancement – but also falling prey to issues of privacy violation and disinformation. Through this project, the Digital Democracies Institute maintains that “conflict is a part of democratic dialogue.” The institute in its entirety is a “group of diverse scholars and stakeholders from around the world.” Their main lab resides at the SFU Burnaby mountain campus in the School of Communication. Digital Democracy will incorporate campaign contribution data to reveal the exchange of money between special interests and lawmakers as legislation is crafted and voted on. A user will be able to explore financial relationships between people, by proximity in time to votes, and between industries and legislative vote patterns.
